Lenten Vision March 9, 2014

     Yesterday, as I took Communion (by Intinction), I accidentally dropped the wafer into the wine. The attendant told me to "Just leave it," but I couldn't. I reached into the goblet and fished out the wafer, put it into my mouth and began to turn and make my way back to my seat in the pew.
     Suddenly there was a bright light and I looked first at my fingers and thumb of my right hand and noticed that they were stained with blood. I then looked up at the Cross towering above me. Some men were bringing Jesus down from the Cross and as his right arm dropped from the Limb of the Cross, I saw a drop of blood fall from his fingers and thumb. I followed it as it fell in slow motion and then there was another flash of light as it fell into the Chalice, The Holy Grail was before me and in it I saw the reflection of the Crucified Christ in the Blood that was in the Grail. A voice then said to me, "Stephen, take and eat," and I looked to see who had said this. A lady stood before me holding the Grail and at that instant I knew that it was Mary Magdalene. She pushed my hand over to the now deposed Body of Christ and I touched his right hand and fingers with my right hand and fingers. Then she pushed the Grail before me and said to me, "Stephen, drink this. This is the New Covenant in the Blood of the Lamb." I raised the Grail to my lips and drank as I looked into her eyes, then watched as Jesus was taken away.
     I was then back in the Church heading back to my seat in the pew and sat down, staring at my fingers and thumb. I stuck them into my mouth and tasted Blood. I looked back at the others who were taking Holy Communion, then I turned and walked out of the Sanctuary.

At Five In The Afternoon

Down in the dregs of a hundred degree fever,
She was there at five o'clock in the afternoon,

They picked him up out of the hot dust and the sand,
For him it was a very bloody afternoon,

She waited, her fever rose another degree,
In her day dreams she had dreaded this afternoon,

The people were crowded around the outer gate,
It was hot in the marketplace that afternoon,

A young man held their coats so no one knew their names,
Hiding there in the shadow of the afternoon,

They carried him away to the burying ground,
Singing songs of praise in the dirty afternoon,

Mary told her friends who were waiting for the news,
St. Stephen is dead, they killed him this afternoon.

Quartersawn Moon

They stood there in the gloaming, the old cowboy and the young girl from California. He had pointed out the quarter Moon and the brilliance of Venus in the southern Kansas sky.  He was about to comment on how you can also see the phases of Venus when she pre-empted:
"The reason we see the quartersawn Moon is not because of its light, but because of its darkness which is caused by the shadow of the Earth," She said.
"That is a beautiful thought, I never thought of it that way," then, thinking in his mind, "Are we having an intimate moment here?"
She answered his thought out loud, "You are a lot older than I am," and proceeded to point out constellations: Cassiopeia, Cygnus, Ursa Major. She pointed out Polaris and said, "That star tells us which way to go."
He scuffed his cowboy boots on the wet grass, thinking about stars and how they appear so close to each other and yet are light years apart.
"You see that blond girl over there?" She turned him by his shoulder toward the others.
"Yep."
"She's my partner," The term partner having a much different meaning than the cowboy had in his mind, but he got the connection.
"Well, you and I have another thing in common, other than the Moon, Venus, the stars and the beautiful Kansas sky." He turned and walked toward the horse barn.
"What's that?" She asked, turning also to leave.
"We both like pussy."

On The Re-Beginning Of Time

Already pimped by the rolled back clock,
Orion doesn't care wtf time it is,
The Family Jewels hang there just the same,
Big Dog snappin' and snarlin' at them;

Then switch to GPS, only to find that the Poles have changed,
The Republicans now in the lead;
While clocks spin backwards for an hour,
Dylan falls off of his barstool again,
Getting bourbon and egg on his face;
While October leaves fall into Black Neurotic November
Plastic bags that are donated to the National Dump,
Chicago finds out what time it really is,
But doesn't like the answer;
Little kids unable to Trick or Treat,
Put razor blades in apples for their Mother,
Longing for El Dia de Los Muertos;
While Lou Reed plays T'ai Chi on his Death Bed,
Time is definitely not on his side but has his back,
Do we all now agree that Time has come today?
